Matthew J. Eckelman, Ph.D., is a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Northeastern University and an adjunct professor at the Yale School of Public Health. He has led several national and international studies of national health care emissions and resulting public health impacts and has published extensively on life cycle assessment and sustainability in clinical care, drugs, and devices. Eckelman is a contributing author to the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change and leads the indicators working group of the Lancet Commission on Sustainable Healthcare. He worked previously for the Massachusetts State Executive Office of Environmental Affairs and consults regularly on sustainable engineering and environmental assessment projects with industry and agency partners. Eckelman earned a Ph.D. in chemical and environmental engineering from Yale University, where he was affiliated with the Center for Industrial Ecology and the Center for Green Chemistry and Engineering.
