Bio: Dionne Kringos, Ph.D., M.Sc., a 2014-15 Dutch Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice, is a postdoctoral/senior health systems researcher in the Department of Social Medicine at the Academic Medical Centre of the University of Amsterdam. Prior positions have included consultant for WHO Europe and RAND Europe and researcher at the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL). Kringos's research interests include primary care development and evaluation, health systems performance, health financing, quality of care, and indicator development. She has published 28 peer-reviewed journal articles, including in Health Affairs, Health Policy, American Journal of Public Health, and International Journal for Quality in Health Care. Kringos received her Ph.D. in primary care system performance from Utrecht University and an M.Sc. in health economics, policy, and law as well as an M.Sc. in health services research from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Project: Realizing the Potential of the Affordable Care Act in Strengthening Primary Care
Description: Dr. Kringos' project will seek to identify effective models of high-quality primary care for patients with multiple chronic conditions. She will focus on best practices among U.S. and international primary care practices and experiences of an Academic Innovations Collaborative in Massachusetts, where 20 Harvard-affiliated primary care practices from 2012 to 2014 are undergoing a transformation toward becoming a Primary Care Learning Laboratory for Patient Safety. Using qualitative methods, Dionne will perform an in-depth study of evidence-based interventions at policy, practice, provider, and patient level, and explore the drivers of transforming primary care practices toward becoming high-performing practices for patients in complex circumstances, reducing the risk to harm.
